Newcastle vs Chelsea betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Chelsea

Newcastle are without a win in their last four Premier League matches, but they did win their third round replay on Tuesday night.

Chelsea will view this as an important opportunity to break away from Manchester United. The Red Devils are in action against league leaders Liverpool this weekend.

Newcastle vs Chelsea: Who will win?

Chelsea have won six of their last seven matches against Newcastle in all competitions. Chelsea are 1/2 favourites to win the match while Newcastle are priced at 5/1. The draw can be backed at 7/2.

Five of Newcastle’s last six home matches in the Premier League have featured three or more goals. Bet on over 2.5 goals at 8/11.

Miguel Almiron has scored three goals in his last three appearances. Almiron is 12/1 to open the scoring and 15/4 to score anytime.

The Magpies held Wolves to a 1-1 draw at Molineux last weekend. Miguel Almiron opened the scoring but his goal was quickly cancelled out by the hosts.

Steve Bruce’s side are 13th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone. An unexpected win could be enough to lift them into the top half of the table.

Newcastle ended their run of five matches without a win on Tuesday night with a victory over League One side Rochdale. Having drawn their initial match 1-1, Newcastle won the third round replay 4-1 at St. James’ Park, with goals from Matty Longstaff, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton. Newcastle will host Oxford United in the fourth round.

Can Chelsea secure fourth spot?

Chelsea were comfortable 3-0 winners at home to Burnley last weekend. Jorginho, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi netted for Frank Lampard’s side, who have now kept back-to-back clean sheets. The Blues remain fourth in the table with a five-point buffer between them and Manchester United.

Newcastle have won four and drawn four of their 11 league matches at St. James’ Park this season. Only Crystal Palace and Bournemouth (both 10) have scored fewer goals at home than Newcastle (11). Chelsea have the fourth-best away record this season, winning seven and drawing one of their 11 league matches on the road.

Saturday’s clash will be the 50th in the Premier League between these two sides. Chelsea have won 25 and drawn 12 of their previous encounters.

Chelsea were narrow 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge in October. Marcos Alonso scored the only goal of the game.

Steve Bruce has only won one of his 22 Premier League matches against Chelsea.

Newcastle team news vs Chelsea

Steve Bruce could be without as many as nine players for Saturday’s match.

Injuries to Fabian Schar and Paul Dummett should see Federico Fernandez start in a three-man defence, alongside fit-again club captain Jamaal Lascelles. Ciaran Clark is another option at the back.

Yoshinori Muto is unlikely to feature after picking up a hip problem, while DeAndre Yedlin and Ki Sung-Yeung are further doubts. Allan Saint-Maximin faces a late fitness test.

The Longstaff brothers could start together in central midfield, but they face pressure from Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.

Joelinton is expected to continue up front while Andy Carroll provides a potential goal threat off the bench.

Dwight Gayle, who bagged an assist last weekend, has a hamstring injury and is expected to miss out. Javier Manquillo and Jack Colback are also ruled out.

Martin Dubravka will return to goal after being rested for the FA Cup replay.

Christian Atsu is in contention to face his former side.

Chelsea team news vs Newcastle

Christian Pulisic is sidelined with a tendon injury picked up in training. The American should be available before the end of January.

Frank Lampard will be hoping to have N’Golo Kante available. Kante has a hamstring issue and will be assessed ahead of the weekend. Ross Barkley played well in the FA Cup and will be pushing for more minutes on Saturday.

Marcos Alonso remains doubtful with a glute muscle injury. Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to deputise at left-back, rather than the out of favour Emerson Palmieri.

At centre-back, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen were preferred to Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is “still out for a while” with a leg injury.
