A rare defeat for Newcastle.

Last weekend, they travelled to Turf Moor as the two sides with the lowest average possession in the Premier League went head to head.

Unsurprisingly, it was a game of few chances, but Burnley came out on top, scoring a late header from a corner.

Nevertheless, that’s only a minor set-back for Steve Bruce’s side as it was only their second defeat in eight.

In that time, they’ve beaten West Ham, Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Southampton as well as holding Wolves and Manchester City to draws.

All of this means the Toon Army have risen from third bottom to 11th, seven points above the relegation zone.

After this though, their fixtures a very tough.

In their next six they play Manchester United, Everton, Leicester, Wolves, Chelsea and then Everton again.

They could find points hard to come by there so it is vitally important they don’t leave this one empty handed.

Will Crystal Palace claim a win?

As for Crystal Palace, Monday night witnessed their biggest game of the season.

Bitter rivals Brighton & Hove Albion were the visitors to Selhurst Park.

However, the home side were completely outplayed in the first half, failing to have a shot in the first half of a Premier League game at home for the first time since returning to the top-flight in 2013.

So, deservedly so, Brighton took the lead just after the interval.

Nevertheless, Wilfried Zaha, who else, stepped up and rescued a draw with a rocket into the top corner.

He has now scored six goals against Brighton; the most he’s netted against any opponent in all competitions.

1-1 it finished thereby extending Palace’s unbeaten run to four matches, two wins and two draws in that time.

Roy Hodgson’s side are up to ninth, one point better off than Newcastle.

The Eagles won 1-0 on their last visit to St James’ Park back in April.

Will they repeat that victory here?

One of the secrets to Newcastle’s relative recent success has been their consistency of selection.

Martin Dúbravka will continue in goal; his tally of 64 is the third-most saves in the Premier League this season.

In defence, captain Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark are both injured.

So, Federico Fernández, Fabian Schär and Paul Dummett will continue as the three centre-backs.

Despite the fact DeAndre Yedlin is back from injury, Javier Manquillo is expected to keep his place at right-back.

Jetro Willems will start on the other side.

In central-midfield, Jonjo Shelvey missed the Burnley game through injury but should be back to rekindle his partnership with Isaac Hayden.

Sean Longstaff would drop to the bench where he’ll find brother Matty; Ki Sung-yueng is injured.

Out-wide, Allan Saint-Maximin is injured.

This is a massive blow as the Magpies are yet to win a game this season that the Frenchman has not started.

Miguel Almirón is back from injury though, looking for his first Newcastle goal.

In the absence of Saint-Maximin, Bruce could go with a front two of Joelinton and Andy Carroll.

Can the two big men up-front lead the Toon Army to a home win?

Crystal Palace team news vs Newcastle United

As for Crystal Palace, they’re very short of players right now.

So much so, they named two defenders on the bench on Monday who are yet to make their first-team debuts.

However, Roy Hodgson could have some of his injured players back for this fixture.

As always, Vicente Guaita will be in goal; only one goalkeeper has kept more clean sheet than him in the Premier League so far.

In defence, there’s no Joel Ward, Jeffrey Schlupp, Gary Cahill or Patrick van Aanholt.

Mamadou Sakho is also serving the third game of his three-match ban.

Likewise Jaïro Riedewald, making his first Premier League appearance since February 2018 on Monday, went off injured at half time.

So, Martin Kelly, Scott Dann and James Tomkins will all start once again.

If Riedewald is not fit, James McArthur could cover at left-back again, as he did in the second half against Brighton.

That therefore opens up a spot in midfield alongside Luka Milivojević and Cheikhou Kouyaté.

Max Meyer is likely to take that spot after a great cameo last time out.

The other options are James McCarthy or Víctor Camarasa.

Further forward, Andros Townsend is another long-term absentee.

So, just like on Monday, Jordan Ayew will shift out to the right with Christian Benteke through the middle.

The Belgian has scored just five goals in his last 66 Premier League appearances

In contrast, Wilfried Zaha has netted three of the club’s last five goals.

Can Zaha fire them to a victory on Tyneside?
