Newcastle United vs Arsenal betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Unai Emery

Newcastle United vs Arsenal prediction: Newcastle United 1-3 Arsenal

Two sides, who are both somewhat embarking on new eras, meet at St James’ Park.

This is Newcastle’s first game under Steve Bruce so can he replicate the success the club enjoyed under Rafa Benítez?

As for Arsenal, after a summer of spending, can Unai Emery guide them back into the UEFA Champions League?

This will be a fascinating contest in the North East.

Allan Saint-Maximin is the other new big-money signing. He is 8/1 to break the deadlock and 14/5 to score anytime.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Premier League Golden Boot joint-winner last season. He is 7/2 to score first and 5/4 to net anytime.

Nicolas Pépé is Arsenal’s exciting new signing. The Côte d’Ivoire international is 4/1 to score first and 7/5 to mark his debut with a goal.

Both Pépé and Aubameyang to score is 4/1.

Both Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang to score is also 4/1.

Both Miguel Almirón and Joelinton to score is 20/1.

How will Newcastle get on this season?

After three successful seasons under Rafa Benítez, Steve Bruce has very big shoes to fill.

The Magpies ended up 13th last year after finishing 10th the year before after gaining promotion under the Spaniard straight back into the top flight.

However, Benítez could not agree terms with the club and left to take over at Chinese Super League club Dàlián Yīfāng.

Steve Bruce was appointed as his successor but that remains a very underwhelming appointment.

Newcastle’s first priority has to be to stay up this season and home form will be key as always.

Will they get off to the perfect start here?

A new era for Arsenal?

As for Arsenal, despite a catastrophic end to last season, there is a sense of optimism in North London.

The Gunners amassed just seven points from their last seven Premier League games to miss out on a place in the top four.

Then, they were demolished 4-1 by Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League Final in Baku.

No Champions League football for a third season running.

However, after a summer of spending, a top four finish is paramount.

Will they get off to the perfect start with a win at St James’?

Newcastle United made four new signings during the summer and they’re expected to give three debuts in this game.

Martin Dúbravka remains the first choice goalkeeper.

They’re likely to continue with the back five they’ve used during pre-season.

Federico Fernández, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schär are likely to be those three centre-backs.

Jetro Willems, who’s on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, could make his debut at left-back.

Right-back Emil Krafth, who joined from Amiens on Thursday, is unlikely to make his debut.

There have been no new arrivals in central-midfield.

Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden look set to start ahead of Ki Sung-yueng.

Sean Longstaff is still injured.

Further forward is where the big money has been spent.

Allan Saint-Maximin has joined from Nice and Joelinton has signed from Hoffenheim.

Both are expected to start alongside Miguel Almirón in the front three.

Will this side spring a surprise?

Arsenal team news vs Newcastle United

As for Arsenal, they made two deadline day signings.

However, neither of them are expected to start in this one.

Bernd Leno is very much established as the number one goalkeeper.

In defence, Kieran Tierney and David Luiz both arrived on Thursday.

However, the former is injured and the latter isn’t expected to start just yet.

It’s likely to be largely the same defence that started at Barcelona in a friendly last weekend.

Calum Chambers would therefore get the nod alongside Sokratis Papastathopoulos at centre-back.

Sead Kolašinac, as well as Mesut Özil, have been left out of the squad for security reasons.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles will continue to fill in at right-back.

Héctor Bellerín and Rob Holding are both recovering from long-term injuries.

In midfield, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are unlikely to be match fit after international commitments over the summer.

That could open the door for 19 year old Joe Willock who has shone during pre-season.

Further forward, Dani Ceballos, who’s on loan from Real Madrid, is expected to be thrown straight in due to Mesut Özil’s absence.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette scored 50 goals between them last year and they’re likely to link up once more.

Nicolas Pépé signed from Lille for £72 million earlier this month but is not ready to make his debut.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan will start; Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli will be options off the bench.

Will this Arsenal side defeat Newcastle?
