According to a report from SportItalia, scouts from Premier League outfit Newcastle United will be present at the Serie A matchup between Sampdoria and Benevento this evening, with Samp midfielder Dennis Praet the subject of their attention.
Praet, a technically-gifted 23-year-old midfielder, made the surprise move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris from Anderlecht last summer, despite being heavily linked with some of Europe’s top clubs.
Though he failed to hold down a consistent starting spot under Samp boss Marco Giampaolo (19 Serie A starts), Praet did regularly display the guile and technical ability which had seen him labelled one of Anderlecht’s most promising talents of the past decade.
A number of reports breaking earlier this week suggested that Newcastle had expressed an interest in the Blucherciati man, who is also being tracked by a number of Spain’s top sides.
Sources in Italy even went as far as to suggest that Rafael Benitez’s side had made an official bid for the once-capped Belgian international, though the value of the proposed offer was not revealed.
In the stands
And, as per the aforementioned report from SportItalia, scouts from Newcastle will once again be in attendance at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to watch Praet in action tonight, when Sampdoria welcome Serie A newcomers Benevento to Genoa.
