Newcastle transfer news: Fresh Willock competition, Tuanzebe latest & Terry tipped to replace Bruce

Newcastle transfer news: Fresh Willock competition, Tuanzebe latest & Terry tipped to replace Bruce

A series of updates surrounding the efforts of Premier League outfit Newcastle United on the transfer front have surfaced online on Thursday.

Monaco join the hunt

The first centers on the emergence of a rival suitor in the race for Arsenal star Joe Willock.

Midfield talent Willock of course spent the 2nd half of last season playing his trade at St. James’ Park, after struggling for game-time under Mikel Arteta’s watch at the Emirates.

And the 21-year-old quickly went on to remind viewers of his unquestionable talents, racking up a hugely impressive 8 goals in 14 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

In turn, it has since come as little surprise to see speculation spread that those in a position of power at St. James’ have set their sights on a permanent deal for Willock. Thus far, however, the Magpies have failed to meet Arsenal’s understandably considerable asking price.

And, as outlined above, if the latest word doing the rounds in the European media is anything, then the lack of urgency on the part of the Newcastle board could yet prove costly.

As per a report from French outlet RMC Sport, Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco have begun to express a keen interest in Willock’s signature.

Amid a search for attack-minded reinforcements in the middle of the park, the principality club are said to be ‘exploring’ a move for the Arsenal man, albeit with it unclear whether such a proposal would come in the form of a loan or permanent swoop.

Tuanzebe boost

The next piece of Magpies-related transfer news to have surfaced on Thursday is of an altogether more positive nature.

This comes in the form of an update on the club’s pursuit of Manchester United defender Axel Tunzebe.

Recent days have seen ex-English youth international Tuanzebe hotly tipped for a move to Tyneside, on the back of a challenging campaign in Manchester which ultimately culminated in just four Premier League starts.

Steve Bruce, on the lookout for fresh faces at the heart of his backline, has therefore urged the Newcastle hierarchy to sanction a swoop for the 23-year-old over the coming weeks.

And, according to the latest reports, the English tactician could well soon have his wish granted.

As per Football Insider, the Geordie outfit have overtaken Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the race for Tuanzebe’s signature, having been given ‘encouragement’ that a deal can be reached.

This comes with Newcastle ready to hand the stopper a ‘regular starting role’ with the club.

‘A damned good manager’

Last up comes fresh speculation surrounding the position of the aforementioned Bruce on Tyneside.

Ex-Sunderland and Hull City boss Bruce has of course never cut the most popular figure at Newcastle, with the club’s fanbase having long called for a more forward-thinking tactician to be brought in.

In turn, it has come as little surprise to see reports continue to point towards the 60-year-old potentially being ousted from his spot on the Magpies bench this summer.

And, on Thursday, a surprise name has been thrown into the mix as a potential replacement.

The man in question? John Terry.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider this week, Frank McAvennie, formerly of Aston Villa – whom Terry recently departed – endorsed the prospect of the legendary stopper taking his place on the bench at St. James’:

‘Who knows? Looking at who might be under pressure, Bruce always is’, McAvennie explained.

‘I see him [Terry] at Newcastle and I honestly think he’ll be a damned good manager.’

‘He would give some fresh ideas, I’m sure he’s very different to Bruce but it’s a huge job. How many top-class coaches did he work under at Chelsea? He must have picked up a few things. It won’t be long before he’ll be back in the Premier League.’
