Newcastle & Anderlecht striker Isaac Kiese Thelin
There’s just over a week to go in the summer transfer window.
Will Newcastle United manage to improve their squad significantly before the season begins?
The good news for the Magpies on Thursday morning is that Newcastle have had a bid for Anderlecht striker Isaac Kiese Thelin accepted.
That’s been confirmed by Belgium news outlet HLN. However Newcastle still have a fight on their hands to make the deal happen.
Lokomotiv Moscow are also chasing Thelin, while the Russians have also had a bid accepted for the Swedish international forward.
26-year-old Thelin spent last season on loan from Anderlecht at Beveren. The Swede scored 19 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.
Thelin is thought to command a 5-6 million euro asking fee.
Will Salomon Rondon leave West Brom?
Could Newcastle sign Thelin plus West Brom forward Salomon Rondon?
On Wednesday night, Rafa Benitez gave the following up on the Rondon chase:
Yes (Newcastle still want to sign Rondon). It could be fine if we have an agreement but we have to respect West Brom, and what they decide.
We have been talking for a while about players. I think it’s the time to act, more than talk.
Benitez, who spoke after Newcastle lost 4-0 to Braga in a pre-season friendly, also voiced his fears for the remainder of the transfer market.
Speaking about how he expects the final days of the window to go, Benitez said:
Am I optimistic thinking that in ten days, we can do what we didn’t do in two months?
I don’t think so. But, still, I think it’s obvious we need people, we need bodies.
