Newcastle receive huge DeAndre Yedlin injury boost

Huge relief for Newcastle

Newcastle United have received a huge boost in the form of positive news on DeAndre Yedlin’s injury which he sustained against Tottenham on Saturday.

The Magpies lost the game against Mauricio Pochettino’s men but possibly the biggest blow was to DeAndre Yedlin.

The American right-back sustained what looked to be a very serious injury around the 90th minute and was seen being taken straight down the tunnel.

That certainly wasn’t good news for Newcastle and Rafa Benitez who are already short of options in that position.

Manquillo is a replacement for Yedlin but after that, Benitez would likely have to play someone out of position.

That may not be a worry though, with the latest news coming out of Newcastle United that the injury is not as serious as first thought.

Returning to training ‘shortly’

The club confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the injury is not serious and the player has undergone treatment this week.

They also confirmed that he will ‘likely’ return to training ‘shortly’.

Their statement read:

The club can confirm that the knee injury sustained by DeAndre Yedlin on Saturday was not serious.

The USA international defender limped off towards the end of United’s season opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, he has been assessed and undergone treatment this week and is likely to resume training with his team-mates shortly.

Newcastle fans on Twitter call for Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko to be banned for a stamp

Yedlin’s injury was only one of many talking points after the game.

That is because Newcastle fans are upset about one challenge that wasn’t spotted.

The player in question was former Magpies star Moussa Sissoko who was adjudged to have stamped on a player’s ankle and now some Newcastle fans are calling for him to be banned.
