Aston Villa vs Newcastle

Newcastle face a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, for a Premier League clash.

The Magpies did not have the greatest of starts to their 2021/22 campaign last weekend.

They would play host to West Ham, and did take the lead after just five minutes, through Callum Wilson.

Aaron Cresswell pulled one back 13 minutes later, but the North East outfit were once again in front five minutes before the break.

However, Newcastle subsequently went on to collapse in the second half, conceding goals from Said Benrahma, Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio, to eventually lose 4-2.

As a result, Steve Bruce and co. are no doubt very keen to pick up their first points of the season against Villa.

Newcastle injury blow

Before the game, Newcastle have been dealt an injury blow.

Jonjo Shelvey would start for the Tyneside outfit in their defeat to West Ham. However, speaking on Friday, Steve Bruce confirmed that the midfielder is now sidelined with a calf injury:

“Jonjo won’t make it.

“He has suffered a calf injury, the other one after his pre-season injury.”

Bruce would also provide an update on the goalkeeping situation at the club, which does not seem to be getting much better, as Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow remain sidelined:

“It’s not great when the two most experienced ones are struggling.

“Martin’s injury has become infected which will set him back a few more weeks.

“Karl has still not overcome his problems.

“We may have to register four goalkeepers which is unheard of.”

Lastly, the Newcastle boss confirmed that Joe Willock will be in his squad to face Villa:
