Newcastle & Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin
According to L’Equipe on Monday, Newcastle are trying to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice.
Saint-Maximin is a 22-year-old winger, who is under contract at Nice until 2022.
Last season, Saint-Maximin played 34 times for Nice in Ligue 1. He scored six goals and contributed three assists.
However, according to L’Equipe, Nice manager Patrick Vieira is keen to sell Saint-Maximin this summer.
Why? L’Equipe claim that Vieira has concerns about Saint-Maximin’s attitude and mindset.
So will Newcastle get the deal done?
With less than three weeks to go before the start of the Premier League season, Newcastle United are under pressure in the transfer market.
Not only have the club lost Rafael Benitez this summer, but arguably the club’s three best players last season – Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez and Mohamed Diame – have all left Newcastle too.
Regarding Saint-Maximin, L’Equipe say that Nice are looking to sell the forward for 25 million euros.
Newcastle, though, have reportedly offered Nice just 15 million euros, plus add-ons, for Saint-Maximin.
What about Watford’s interest in Saint-Maximin?
Previously this summer, Watford have been linked to Saint-Maximin.
France Football suggested earlier in the transfer window that Watford were at the front of the queue in the transfer chase.
Indeed, in that report, it was claimed that Watford were in talks with Saint-Maximin’s representatives about the possible move.
But are Watford now looking elsewhere?
Watford appear to be hot on the trail of Rennes wide-man Ismaila Sarr.
