Newcastle boss Steve Bruce provides injury update on Allan Saint-Maximin

Morecambe vs Newcastle

Newcastle United are set for League Cup action on Wednesday evening.

The Magpies face a trip to lower-league outfit Morecambe in the competition’s 3rd round.

You can find out how to watch the clash here, or check out 101’s betting tips here.

Newcastle head into the tie with a pretty poor recent record in the League Cup. In fact, the North East outfit haven’t made it past the 5th round since all the way back in the 1975/76 season.

They should, however, have little issue seeing off Morecambe on Wednesday.

Bruce on Saint-Maximin

Ahead of tomorrow’s matchup, meanwhile, Steve Bruce held his latest press conference on Tuesday.

During the presser, the Newcastle boss provided a fitness update on Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman has been a key figure at Newcastle for some time now, but was forced off during the first-half of the club’s 3-0 loss to Brighton on Sunday.

And, though Saint-Maximin is expected to miss out on Wednesday, Bruce confirmed that there is a chance the winger could return to fitness in time for Newcastle’s trip to Tottenham this weekend:

“Saint-Maximin has had a scan on his ankle and we don’t think it’s that bad. He won’t make tomorrow night but has a chance for Sunday.

“We were worried about Jamal’s eye and it’s completely closed but thankfully there’s no lasting damage to it.”
