New Tottenham contract could double Christian Eriksen’s wages, Dane may insist on exit clause

Will Christian Eriksen stay with Tottenham?

There’s still three weeks to run in the European transfer window.

Will Christian Eriksen end up leaving Tottenham to move to the continent?

Eriksen’s importance to Spurs was rubber-stamped in round one of the new Premier League season.

The Dane came off the bench in the second-half, as Aston Villa led Spurs 1-0.

After Eriksen’s introduction, Tottenham went on to win the match 3-1.

Spurs may double Christian Eriksen’s wages

It’s common knowledge that Eriksen only has a year to run on his current Tottenham deal.

Eriksen has been linked with a possible move to Real Madrid or Juventus this summer.

However, at the time of writing, it’s unclear whether Eriksen will complete a move from Tottenham in the next few weeks.

According to the Daily Mail on Tuesday, Tottenham are hoping to agree a new contract with their playmaker:

Tottenham are willing to more than double Christian Eriksen’s wages to secure their playmaker’s long-term future.

Spurs are desperate to extend Eriksen’s contract and are willing to offer the midfielder close to £200,000 a week — more than double his current £80,000.

Eriksen may insist on exit clause

In the event that Eriksen does sign a new contract, the Daily Mail suggest that the Dane could carve out an easy exit route from the club:

Sources indicate that even if he was willing to sign fresh terms he would look to insert a clause that would allow him to join certain clubs for a fixed price.

Would Spurs agree to such a clause?

Perhaps, as currently Tottenham stand to lose Eriksen for free at the end of the 2019-20 season.
