How good were Holland during the Nations League group stages?

Oranje were drawn in a group with the last two World Champions, Germany and France.

When they began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat in Paris, it looked tough for them.

However, a thumping 3-0 win over Germany followed.

A statement win.

That’s not all.

In their next match, they beat France 2-0 in Rotterdam meaning they needed just a point from their trip to Gelsenkirchen to secure top spot.

However, the Dutch found themselves 2-0 down with just five to play.

Quincy Promes struck to give them hope before Virgil van Dijk volleyed home to send Netherlands to Portugal.

Despite all of this, Ronald Koeman’s side actually come into this match off the back of a defeat.

In March, they did begin their Euro qualifying campaign with a win, 4-0 over Belarus at De Kuip.

However, just three days later, they were beaten 3-2 by Germany at Johan Cruyff Arena in an absolute thriller.

Nevertheless, there is real belief in this side that they can beat anyone.

As this is a team that have missed out on the last two major tournaments, they will be desperate to make their mark on a big stage.

Will it be the men in Orange who progress to Sunday’s final?

Will England defeat the Dutch?

Confidence is sky high within the England camp too.

Just like their opponents, England’s UEFA Nations League campaign did not start ideally.

Gareth Southgate’s side were beaten 2-1 at Wembley by Spain before drawing 0-0 in Rijeka with Croatia.

However, that was followed by that famous night in Seville.

A first half brace from Raheem Sterling as well as a goal from Marcus Rashford helped England to a 3-2 win in Spain.

That set up a matchday six showdown with Croatia at Wembley.

If England win, they’re through to the final.

An England defeat though would see them relegated to League B.

It looked like it was all going to go wrong when England fell behind just before the hour mark.

But, two late goals from Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane turned it all around and sent England to the finals.

Their superb form continued into 2019 and Euro 2020 qualifying.

That kicked off with a 5-0 drubbing of Czech Republic at Wembley; Raheem Sterling grabbing a hat-trick.

Then, three days later, England scored five again.

This time they came from behind to win 5-1 in Podgorica against Montenegro.

That’s the first time that England have scored five or more goals in successive matches since 1984.

This team were so impressive in reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup last year.

However, England still have not won a senior title since 1966.

Will England reach Sunday’s final or will they lose a fifth straight semi-final?

Will Ronald Koeman’s side rise to the occasion?

Just five of his current charges were a part of the squad that went to their last tournament, Brazil 2014.

Goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen is one of those.

He may have made just 11 appearances for Barcelona this season but he remains Holland’s first choice goalkeeper.

Seven of this 11 played all four Nations League group games.

In defence, Denzel Dumfries will start at right-back.

On the other side, Daley Blind will keep his place ahead of Patrick van Aanholt and Nathan Aké.

At centre-back, Virgil van Dijk will captain the side just five days after winning the Champions League.

The Liverpool star will partner Matthijs de Ligt.

Are they are the best centre-back pairing in international football?

In midfield, Ajax stars Donny van de Beek and Frenkie de Jong will definately start.

Atalanta’s Marten de Roon, who started all four Nations League group games, is expected to drop out.

Another Liverpool Champions League winner, Georginio Wijnaldum, is expected to get the nod over him.

Up front, they play without an auxiliary centre-forward.

Memphis Depay will play through the middle; he scored five goals in his last five games for Holland.

Depay will be flanked by Ryan Babel and Quincy Promes who are both expected to keep their place ahead of Steven Bergwijn.

This is Holland’s biggest game for five years.

Will this young side rise to the occasion?

As for England, six of this squad were involved in the Champions League final on Sunday.

That may complicate things for Gareth Southgate and it certainly makes his starting XI harder to predict.

However, it is a certainty that Jordan Pickford will be in goal; he’s started England last 13 competitive games in a row.

In defence, the fact that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Danny Rose were in Madrid on Saturday may well see them left in reserve.

Harry Maguire is set to partner John Stones in a back four.

Ben Chilwell has started all of the Nations League games so far so will keep his place with Kyle Walker on the other side.

Declan Rice started both qualifiers in the spring and should keep his place at the base of midfield.

Ross Barkley, who scored twice in Montenegro in March, only played 14 minutes in Baku so should be fresh.

Jordan Henderson captained Liverpool to Champions League glory at the weekend but is expected to start.

That would mean Eric Dier, Jesse Lingard and Dele miss out.

Southgate also has a big decision to make in his front three.

Raheem Sterling has been directly involved in seven goals in his last four England games, as much goal involvement as in his previous 31 appearances.

After scoring 25 goals this season for Manchester City, he will for sure start.

On the other side Jadon Sancho, who provided 19 assists for Dortmund this season, will start in a competitive international for only the second time.

Up front, is where the big decision has to be made.

Harry Kane may have scored 17 goals in 20 appearances under Gareth Southgate but he clearly was not 100% fit in Madrid on Saturday.

England’s captain is likely to be a substitute with Marcus Rashford starting.

Sterling is likely to be the captain if Kane is on the bench.

Will this team take England through to the final?
