Nemanja Matic celebrates Golazo v Spurs

Nemanja Matic predicted his Golazo v Spurs as Chelsea fans call for Puskas Award

The goal that killed Spurs off

To say Chelsea took the most of their chances against Spurs is somewhat of an understatement, but even taking that into consideration, there is something special about the Nemanja Matic golazo.

At 3-2, having come from behind twice, Tottenham were still in the game, but the Matic howitzer, perfectly placed in the top corner, ended any resistance.

Matic was not at his very best against Spurs and is seen by some Chelsea fans as one of the weak links in the Blues first team squad.

But, his first goal of the season for Chelsea will be remembered for some time by the player, fans of the Blues, Kurt Zouma and perhaps the world on a more global stage.

There have already been calls for Matic to be in the running for the 2017 Puskas Award.

And, this is not the first time that Matic would be up for the award of best goal in a calendar year.

Matic lost out to Zlatan…

Matic was up for the Puskas Award in 2013, for a stunning volley for Benfica, but lost out to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

On the official FIFA rankings, Matic’s strike was regarded as the second best goal of the calendar year.

After the win over Spurs, Matic confirmed his strike for Benfica versus Porto remains the best goal of his career.

Matic on the Golazo

Matic told the following to the Chelsea website on the goal v Tottenham: “The most important is that we win the game. But I am happy for my goal, it was a nice goal. I am very happy for the team because we are going to play a final. This game was so hard against a very good team. Spurs to the end they didn’t give up, they are a great team and that is why we are happy.”

On the Premier League title race, the Serbian said: “I think this win is going to give us more confidence of course, it is always good when you win a game, but the next game we have on Tuesday so we have to recover very quick to be ready for that, so the next game for me is the most important in the season.”

Meanwhile, on Instagram, John Terry has confirmed how Nemanja Matic predicted the goal against Tottenham.
