Napoli vs Arsenal betting tips: Europa League quarter-final match preview & predictions

Napoli vs Arsenal prediction: Napoli 2-1 Arsenal

Napoli’s impressive home form in Europe this season makes them slight favourites for the match.

Napoli also have an excellent home record against English opposition, winning five and drawing one of their six matches.

Arsenal’s win on Wednesday was only their third in their last 13 away matches in all competitions.

The Gunners will know that one away goal should be enough to seal the tie.

Napoli vs Arsenal: Who will win?

Napoli are 7/10 favourites to win the match while an away win for Arsenal is priced at 15/4. The draw can be backed at 29/10.

Arsenal are 2/9 favourites to progress to the semi-final thanks to their first-leg advantage. Napoli are 3/1 to qualify.

Alexandre Lacazette has 15 goals for the Gunners this season and is set to be recalled on Thursday. Lacazette is 6/1 to open the scoring and 13/8 to score anytime.

For the home side, Dries Mertens (if the Belgian starts) and Lorenzo Insigne are players that could make the breakthrough.

Napoli vs Arsenal Europa League quarter-final match preview

Aggregate: Napoli 0-2 Arsenal

Napoli host Arsenal at the San Paolo Stadium in Naples on Thursday night for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

Arsenal won the first leg 2-0 thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and an own goal from Kalidou Koulibaly.

Arsenal moved back into the Premier League’s top four with a 1-0 win over Watford on Monday night.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the night when Ben Foster’s clearance was blocked by the striker and rebounded into the Watford net.

Watford went down to 10 men minutes later but Arsenal couldn’t find a second. It was Arsenal’s first away clean sheet in the Premier League this season.

With Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United all involved in matches against top six opposition, Arsenal will be fairly confident of finishing inside the top four come May.

But, the Gunners’ away form remains a concern, as it will for this second leg clash as well.

Can Napoli turn the tie on its head?

Napoli won for the first time in four matches on Sunday, beating Chievo 3-1 away from home. There was an unlikely brace from Kalidou Koulibaly, who scored either side of Arkadiusz Milik’s goal. Napoli conceded a consolation goal for the home side in second-half stoppage time.

Napoli reduced the gap between themselves and leaders Juventus to 13 points. Napoli will be hoping to finish second in Serie A, where they have been for most of the season. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are six points clear of Inter Milan with six matches remaining.

Arsenal have had mixed results away from home in Europe this season, winning their first three matches on the road before losing away at BATE and at Rennes.

Napoli have won four and drawn one of their five European matches at home this season. In the Champions League group stage, Napoli beat Liverpool 1-0 at home and also held PSG to a 1-1 draw.

Should Arsenal score an away goal, Napoli would need to win by a three-goal margin. A 2-0 win for Napoli would force the match to extra-time.

Arsenal won 2-0 on aggregate the last time they faced Italian opposition in a European quarter-final, beating Juventus en route to the 2006 Champions League final. They won the home leg 2-0 before drawing 0-0 in the away leg.

The winners of the tie will meet one of Valencia and Villarreal in the semi-final. Valencia lead the tie 3-1 from the first leg away from home.

Napoli team news vs Arsenal

Following his goal at the weekend, Arkadiusz Milik could partner Lorenzo Insigne up front, in place of Dries Mertens.

Kevin Malcuit could return to the starting line-up after Elseid Hysaj started at right-back last week. Raul Albiol and Amadou Diawara remain sidelined.

Milik, Hysaj and Mario Rui are all one booking away from a suspension.

Arsenal team news vs Napoli

Arsenal’s preferred cup goalkeeper Petr Cech will start in goal ahead of first-choice Bernd Leno.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a poor game against Watford and will likely be dropped, with Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi in contention to replace him.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have not started together recently. Lacazette was not involved at all on Monday which suggests he will get the nod.

Sead Kolasinac was not involved either and should come into the side if Unai Emery opts for a back five.

On-loan Denis Suarez is yet to start a single match for Arsenal since joining from Barcelona in January. The Spaniard has a minor groin injury and is unlikely to feature.

Lucas Torreira is a doubt after picking up a groin injury on Monday night. Matteo Guendouzi could replace the Uruguayan if needed, or Aaron Ramsey could be deployed in a deeper midfield role alongside Granit Xhaka.

Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

Mkhitaryan and Granit Xhaka will miss the next Europa League match if they are booked.
