A nightmare for Arek Milik

The international break has likely ended the 2016-17 season for Arek Milik.

Milik was badly injured as Poland beat Denmark 3-2 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old tore his ACL, and today’s Calciomercato report that he’ll be out of action for at least five months.

Officially, Poland’s media officer Jakub Kwiatkowski has confirmed that Milik will return to Italy in the next twenty-four hours to have surgery. He also confirmed the striker is out for a lengthy lay-off.

So what will Napoli do?

Milik was signed by Napoli in the summer in the wake of Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Juventus, and his absence leaves Napoli short up front. Indeed, he’s the club’s top scorer this season with seven goals in nine matches.

Rather than simply wait out the return of the former Ajax forward, Gianluca Di Marzio believes Napoli will move to sign a free agent who can boost their attacking options.

Some of the possible candidates to fill that hole are Emmanuel Adebayor, Dimitar Berbatov, Marouane Chamakh or Kevin Kuranyi.
