Moussa Sissoko reveals how he found out Tottenham KO’ed Man City
Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told L’Equipe his remarkable story of how he found out Spurs beat Man City in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Spurs are through to the semis after a 4-4 away goals aggregate win over City.
Wednesday’s match was one of the greatest in Champions League history.
It finished in unbelievable circumstances. Raheem Sterling thought he’d scored a hat-trick goal to send City through.
But VAR chalked off the goal as Sergio Aguero was offside in the build-up.
For Sissoko, however, he revealed it took a while before he actually realised what had happened.
‘I was in the locker room alone’
Moussa Sissoko revealed the following to L’Equipe:
I was on the bench. I saw the 5-3 goal, and I was such a state that I returned directly to the locker room.
I was alone, nobody had accompanied me. There was no TV screen broadcasting the game, and in my head we were eliminated.
Then one of the staff members entered the locker room and screamed at me: “Incredible, we did it!”
I said, ” How did we do it?” At that moment, he told me that the goal had been canceled! So, I put on a T-shirt, I forgot my injury and I ran outside to join the others, not to miss the celebration of such a historic moment. It was an incredible emotional shock.
