Eden Hazard & Chelsea
Chelsea will be back in action on Sunday in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Last season’s FA Cup winners will take on Man City, who won the Premier League in 2018-19.
Several star players on both sides will be absent. Those players are still on vacation following the World Cup finals, which finished just three weeks ago.
Eden Hazard will be one of Chelsea’s absentees, while rumours have been rife this summer than Hazard is keen on moving to Real Madrid.
Maurizio Sarri vs Real Madrid
In the Sunday Times, it’s confirmed that Hazard is expected to return to Chelsea on Monday.
That will afford Sarri his first opportunity to work with Hazard at Cobham. And the new Chelsea boss is expecting to convince the Belgian to remain with Chelsea this term.
Sarri hopes that Hazard will be more keen to play for him than Antonio Conte. The Times report:
Sarri is hoping that Hazard can be talked around when he outlines a philosophy which is far more attack-minded than that of his predecessor, Antonio Conte, and the new manager is also determined to lift the mood at the training ground, which was strained in Conte’s last season at the club.
For the record, Hazard still has two years to run on his current Chelsea deal.
Thibaut Courtois to leave Chelsea
While Chelsea can be confident of Hazard staying put, the same can’t be said for Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois’s children are based in Spain, and the goalie has made it clear he wants to leave.
Indeed, the Sun have spoken to Courtois’s agent, Christophe Henrotay, who has said:
I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid. For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place for Chelsea to accept.
