Monaco vs PSG: Match preview

French heavyweights AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain are set to go head-to-head on Wednesday night in a Ligue 1 clash.

Incredibly, the matchup will come as the 2nd between the two clubs in the space of four days.

Thomas Tuchel’s PSG welcomed Les Monegasques to the Parc des Princes on Sunday evening for a league meeting.

And, as was widely-predicted, an absolutely thrilling encounter ensued.

An end-to-end first-half, during which Neymar notched a brace, including a penalty on the stroke of the interval, saw the hosts head in a goal to the good.

However, Monaco showcased their fighting spirit as the clash wore on, to eventually draw level through on-loan Leicester City hitman Islam Slimani 20 minutes from time.

As such, when all was said and done, both sides were forced to settle for a point, in a 3-3 draw.

Monaco vs PSG: What will happen in midweek?

Widespread excitement understandably surrounds Wednesday night’s rematch between the clubs as a result.

The fixture marks a game in hand for PSG and Monaco, after their originally-scheduled meeting at the Stade Louis last month was postponed due to heavy rainfall.

If Thomas Tuchel’s capital giants manage to secure all 3 points, it will see them extend their advantage over 2nd-placed Marseille in the Ligue 1 table to a hefty 8 points.

PSG’s stalemate on Sunday night brought to an end a scintillating run of 8 straight wins across all competitions on the part of the Parisians, during which they had racked up 34 goals.

Monaco, on the other hand, currently sit 8th in the French top-flight. If Roberto Moreno’s side defy the odds to put PSG to the sword on Wednesday, however, they would leapfrog all of Lyon, Montpellier, Lille and Nantes into 4th.

And the principality outfit no doubt fancy their chances of doing just that, on the back of their stellar display on Sunday, culminating in a 5-match unbeaten streak in Ligue 1.
