New kid on the block
It’s deadline day and Monaco receive an insanely big bid from a Manchester club for a teenager that is still pretty much unknown. Sound familiar? History is repeating itself. Last summer, Manchester United made Anthony Martial the most expensive teenager of all time.
This time around it’s City making the extraordinary bid for 17-year-old Kylian Mbappe.
The next Henry?
L’Equipe report that Monaco rejected a €40 million offer from the Premier League giants today. The attacker broke into the first-team last season and became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer.
He broke a record previously held by one Thierry Henry.
We looked up how his career went and if Mbappe can follow his lead he should be alright.
We’ll try to avoid getting hysterical about the amount of money City were willing to pay. If anything, this window has desensitised us. We’re numb to massive spending sprees.
Plus, the reaction to Martial’s move made headlines like the Mirror’s ‘What a waste of money’ look ridiculous. Mbappe has only made 14 appearances for Monaco, though. Sure, time will tell.
