Solskjaer leaves Molde for Manchester United
Molde managing director Oystein Neerland has explained his surprise after Manchester United contacted him over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s availability.
It’s been a very quick turnaround at Manchester United over the past 24 hours.
It was announced on Tuesday that Jose Mourinho had been sacked by the club.
After a poor season so far in the Premier League, their defeat against Liverpool on Sunday was the final nail in the coffin.
Though, his sacking provided more questions than answers.
The biggest was who would come in to replace him this season, with an interim boss expected.
It was then announced on Wednesday that former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would take over for the rest of the campaign.
The Norwegian has been managing Molde since 2015, which came following a spell with Cardiff City.
“I did not see the situation coming”
Now, Molde managing director Oystein Neerland has explained his surprise at the move.
He explained that he was caught off guard when Ed Woodward called asking if he could take Solskjaer for the remainder of the season.
“I did not see the situation coming, just like everyone else,” explained Neerland, as quoted by the Mirror.
“When Mourinho was sacked, the discussion here immediately turned to Ole being a potential candidate
“But it was still a complete surprise when Ed Woodward called me. It’s a very interesting situation but I’m very happy with the situation.
“We had a number of telephone calls yesterday with Ed Woodward and Manchester United but the whole thing happened so fast.”
