Viewers of this evening’s nailbiting Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham have taken to Twitter to provide Mohamed Salah with an affectionate new nickname, after the African winger gave his side the lead in injury-time with a piece of individual magic.
The two sides went head to head at Anfield, with hosts Liverpool having put shock defeats at the hands of Swansea and West Brom over recent weeks firmly behind them with a comfortable 3-0 win over Huddersfield on Tuesday night.
Spurs, meanwhile, put Manchester United to the sword in impressive fashion during the week, on the back of a pair of disappointing stalemates versus Southampton and Newport County respectively.

An open affair was expected to be played out between the two sides on Merseyside this afternoon, though it nevertheless came as a surprise when Liverpool took the lead with just 2 minutes on the clock.
It was man of the moment Mohamed Salah who did the damage once again, as the Egyptian latched onto Eric Dier’s heavy touch to slot past Hugo Lloris in typically-cool fashion.
This is how things stayed until deep into the second-half, when a punch from Loris Karius landed at the feet of Victor Wanyama 5 yards outside the Liverpool box.
The powerful Kenyan, not known for his goalscoring exploits, proceeded to unleash an absolute screamer into the roof of the hosts’ net, handing Tottenham a deserved equaliser following a sustained spell of pressure.
Harry Kane had the chance to secure all 3 points from the penalty spot just 5 minutes later, but fired his spot-kick straight at Karius in uncharacteristic fashion.
And Kane’s miss looked to have proved costly in the end, as Mohamed Salah grabbed his second of the day in sensational fashion in injury-time, turning Tottenham’s defence inside out before lifting a perfect finish over the onrushing Hugo Lloris.
But, in absolutely baffling scenes just moments later, Spurs were handed another lifeline with the last kick of the game, as Virgil Van Dijk fouled Erik Lamela in the Reds’ box, with Kane this time making no mistake from the spot to send Mauricio Pochettino’s men home with a point.
Despite his second goal having somehow not proven the winner on the day, Mohamed Salah’s finish in the 91st-minute was a genuine thing of beauty, as the former AS Roma man skipped beyond Dele Alli, left Ben Davies on his back and made Jan Vertonghen look like an amateur before deftly dinking the ball past Hugo Lloris.
The way in which Salah managed to manoeuvre space for himself where there seemingly was none brought to mind a certain other left-footed superstar, who currently plies his trade with Barcelona (though this is intended in no way to suggest that Salah is on the same level as Lionel Messi).
And social media certainly seemed to agree with this assessment, with Liverpool’s star man having earned himself a brilliant new nickname, as highlighted below:
