Mixed news for Everton as Digne ruled out but Allan could return to face Man United

Everton’s road ahead

The Toffees are set to return to action on Sunday evening, in an FA Cup meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.

Ancelotti’s men will head into proceedings with their tails up, having bounced back from a shaky spell of form with a pair of consecutive victories over the last couple of weeks.

After booking their spot in the FA Cup’s 4th-round with a 2-1 downing of Rotherham, Everton went on to pick up all 3 points at Molineux last time out, courtesy of the same scoreline.

The latter result, meanwhile, means that further wins in their pair of games in hand in the Premier League could see the Merseysiders move to within two points of the English top-flight’s summit.

Next up in the league for Everton, though, is a tricky meeting with in-form Leicester City next Wednesday.

And, as outlined above, ahead of not only Sunday’s cup tie with Sheffield Wednesday, but also their top-6 showdown with Brendan Rodgers’ men, fans of the Blues have today been provided with some altogether mixed news on the personnel front.

Speaking in a press conference this evening, Carlo Ancelotti was drawn on the wellbeing of his squad.

And, first, the Italian went on to confirm a boost, in the form of the return of star hitman Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Ancelotti also revealed, though, that all of Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Allan, Fabian Delph, Alex Iwobi, Niels Nkounkou and, most concerningly of all, the recently returned Lucas Digne have been ruled out of Sunday’s clash:

The potential participation of Digne and co. versus Leicester, in turn, remains somewhat up in the air.

An encouraging update, though, was also forthcoming regarding Allan’s recovery a short time later, with Everton having announced that the Brazilian is closing on a return to the pitch, and should be available to feature versus Manchester United on the 8th of February:
