Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has this evening provided an update on the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, confirming that the club remain ‘hopeful’ of convincing the prolific striker to stay put.
Arsenal down Toffees
The Gunners welcomed Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton to the Emirates earlier today, for their latest Premier League outing.
Arteta’s men headed into proceedings amid a fine spell of form, as one of just two clubs in Europe’s top-5 leagues still unbeaten across all competitions in 2020.
Arsenal had also secured wins in 3 of their last 4 fixtures across all competitions.
And, when all was said and done this afternoon, the capital giants’ resurgence continued.
A hard-fought affair versus a plucky Everton side eventually saw Arsenal emerge with all 3 points, courtesy of a 3-2 victory.
After a breathless first-half which saw all of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Eddie Nketiah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Richarlison find the net, Aubameyang once again came up trumps, netting his 2nd of the day less than a minute after the interval to lift the Gunners into the top-half of the Premier League table.

‘Hopefully we can convince him’
As evidenced above, Arsenal hitman Aubameyang proved himself to be the club’s key man for the umpteenth time this season with his latest crucial haul in front of goal today.
The Gabonese hitman has now notched 17 league goals this season, moving him level alongside Jamie Vardy atop the English top-flight’s goalscoring charts.
As such, speaking in a post-match interview this evening, Mikel Arteta was asked for his assessment of his side’s star man, to which the Arsenal boss responded:
‘Before I took over I had my questions about him but he has shown his commitment.’
‘I wanted him to show if he wanted to do it and do it physically.’
‘I’m so happy with him. He is scoring important goals and as a captain he is giving a great example to everyone else with the way he is working defensively.’
Arteta was then drawn on Aubameyang’s future, after Spanish champions Barcelona made it clear earlier this month that they remain interested in the African’s signature.
The Arsenal boss, though, after admitting that he fully understands why the Blaugrana are keen to prise ‘Auba’ away from the Emirates, assured that the club remain hopeful of convincing their top-scorer to stay put:
‘They are completely right to want him because he is a superb player. It’s right that big teams like him. Hopefully we can convince him this is right place to be.’
‘I think it’s been tough for him because he has big expectations. He wants to play in the biggest competitions and with the best players. We have to help him do that. He needs to feel fulfilled.’
‘He is our most important player. [There is] no doubt the impact he has in this team. We will have to convince him to stay with us.’
