Mikel Arteta singles out ‘key figure’ Guardiola after Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph

Arsenal clinch FA Cup

The final game of the English domestic season took place on Saturday evening.

Arsenal and Chelsea faced off at Wembley in the FA Cup final, as Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard vied for the first piece of silverware of their respective managerial careers.

And, when all was said and done on Saturday, it was Arteta’s outfit who came out on top.

Christian Pulisic got Chelsea off to a superb start thanks to some poor defending from the Gunners.

But, as has so often been the case in recent years, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would soon come up big for the north Londoners.

The hitman equalised after 28 minutes, before firing Arsenal into the lead after 67 minutes.

Their FA Cup triumph also means that Arsenal now have European football, in the form of a spot in the Europa League, to look forward to next season.

Arteta thanks Pep Guardiola

As mentioned above, the FA Cup comes as Mikel Arteta’s first piece of silverware as a manager.

And speaking after yesterday’s final, the Spaniard moved to single out one person in particular for aiding his development as a coach.

The individual in question was Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, whom Arteta spent over three years learning from at the Etihad.

Arteta even went as far as to claim that he wouldn’t be at Arsenal now had it not been for Guardiola:

“He has been a key figure in my development as a coach.

“He has my gratitude. I wouldn’t be sitting here today without him. I have to thank him big time.”
