Mikel Arteta provides update on Ben White & explains why Martin Odegaard missed Arsenal vs Leeds

Arsenal see off Leeds United

Arsenal welcomed fellow Premier League outfit Leeds United to the Emirates on Tuesday evening for a League Cup game.

The two sides were vying for a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals, with the draw for the last-eight set to take place on Wednesday evening.

And, when all was said and done in north London, it would be Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who emerged victorious to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions.

Arsenal broke the deadlock after 55 minutes via a Calum Chambers header:

The result was then put beyond doubt after 68 minutes when Eddie Nketiah capitalised on some sloppy Leeds defending to make it 2-0:

Despite securing passage into the League Cup quarter-finals, Arsenal were dealt some rather concerning personnel blows.

Both Ben White and Rob Holding would be forced off the field against Leeds:

And with a big clash against Leicester City this weekend, Arsenal fans were no doubt eagerly awaiting an update on the status of two of their key central defenders.

Following the Leeds games, Arteta would indeed provide an update on White. And it is largely good news for Arsenal fans, with Arteta confirming that White being taken off was actually due to a bug, not injury:

“There’s a bug going around. Ben had it for the last day or two. He wasn’t feeling great so we decided to take him off.”

Elsewhere, though he did not speak on Holding, Arteta did provide an explanation for Martin Odegaard missing out vs Leeds, stating that the midfielder, along with Kieran Tierney, were out with injuries:

“They are both out with two different injuries. They tried yesterday but they didn’t feel great. Hopefully in the next few days they can feel better and be available for Leicester.”
