Mikel Arteta on Arsenal joining Premier League title race with win at Liverpool

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal joining Premier League title race with win at Liverpool

Arsenal set to face off with Liverpool

Arsenal are set for perhaps their toughest test of the season on Saturday evening.

The Gunners have been on a fine run of form since the September international break, and have now won six and drawn two of their last eight.

However, next up comes a meeting with Liverpool at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp’s side are one of the favourites to win the Premier League this season, and have lost just one game in all competitions in 2021/22.

Despite their solid start to the season, though, four draws from 11 means that Liverpool have slipped down to 4th in the Premier League table, and actually only sit above an in-form Arsenal by two points.

This, of course, means that the Gunners would overtake Klopp and co. with a win at the weekend.

So, it was not too surprising to see Mikel Arteta asked in his press conference on Friday if he thinks it’s a three-horse race for the Premier League title, or whether his side should be included in the conversation with a victory at Anfield tomorrow evening:

“I don’t know what will happen, no one can predict it. This league has given a lot of surprises in recent years to everyone. Again, from our side we know what to do. We know where we were, what we want to be and the best way to do it is to go game by game.”

Arteta was then asked about Arsenal’s poor Anfield record, which has seen them remain winless at the ground since 2012:

“It’s been a while, as you mentioned, so it’s time to do it again. I have experienced both, winning and losing and I know why you lose matches at Anfield and which is the mindset emotionally and the preparation that you need to go there convinced and make sure that you are at the races to compete in that stadium.”
