Mikel Arteta on absences of Ozil & Guendouzi vs Norwich: ‘The situation hasn’t changed’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was this evening drawn on the respective absences of Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi from his matchday squad to take on Norwich City.

Auba back in the goals

The Gunners are currently locked in action with the bottom-of-the-table Canaries at the Emirates.

Arsenal headed into proceedings hoping to continue their recent resurgence, on the back of a pair of consecutive wins.

After putting Southampton to the sword by 2 goals to nil at St. Mary’s last week, Mikel Arteta’s men followed up by booking their spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup last time out, at the expense of Sheffield United.

And, as things stand, Arsenal are well on their way to making it 3 wins from their last 3.

A dominant first-half display on the part of the hosts this evening eventually saw the game’s scoring opened just past the half-hour mark.

After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Tim Krul under pressure on the edge of the Norwich box, the visitors’ shot-stopper inexplicably attempted to dribble his way out of danger, allowing Arsenal’s top-scorer to nip in, before slotting into an empty net.

This was then quickly followed by the Gunners’ 2nd, to essentially end the clash as a contest.

Aubameyang once again proved key, as a sweeping move on the part of the hosts ended with the former Borussia Dortmund man teeing up Granit Xhaka, who went on to smash a low effort under the body of the helpless Krul.

‘Situation hasn’t changed’

While the XI on the pitch for Arsenal versus Norwich are very much taking care of business, though, there are also a number of the capital giants’ stars who have been forced to watch on from home this evening.

The matchday squad opted for by Mikel Arteta is showcased below, with the main talking point ahead of kick-off having surrounded the absences of both Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi.

Neither of Arsenal’s aforementioned midfield stars played a part in their previous two outings, with Ozil thought to be suffering with a back problem, and Guendouzi seemingly being punished for his unruly behaviour versus Brighton last month.

As such, speaking ahead of proceedings getting underway at the Emirates this evening, Mikel Arteta was inevitably drawn on the situations of both players.

The Gunners boss, though, simply replied by assuring that ‘the situation hasn’t changed’:
