Mikel Arteta coy on fitness of Arsenal duo ahead of Liverpool

Mikel Arteta coy on fitness of Arsenal duo ahead of Liverpool

Liverpool vs Arsenal

Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off is set to see Liverpool and Arsenal go head-to-head at Anfield.

The Gunners head into the clash on a fine run of form following an awful start to the campaign.

Arsenal lost their opening three games of the Premier League season, but have since gone unbeaten in eight outings – drawing two and winning six.

As a result, Mikel Arteta’s side could actually overtake Liverpool, who lost to West Ham last time out, with a win on Saturday evening.

The Reds will prove no pushovers, though, with their defeat to the Hammers having marked a first of the campaign across all competitions.

Mikel Arteta on Smith Rowe’s England debut, Thomas Partey & Aubameyang

Ahead of the game, Mikel Arteta would speak to the press on Friday morning.

When doing so, the Spaniard spoke about a number of subjects, including Emile Smith Rowe’s England debut:

“I was extremely happy for him. I saw him yesterday and he was delighted. He made us proud.”

Arteta then provided updates on the fitness of both Thomas Partey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

On Partey, the Arsenal boss seemed unsure if the midfielder will be fit to face Liverpool:

“He couldn’t play for the national team. He really tried to do that and pushed for that one but wasn’t enough. Again that’s something we have to assess because until today he hasn’t done enough.”

On Aubameyang, meanwhile, Arteta provided another vague update:

“Let’s see how everybody is. We have to see them today before assessing and seeing how everybody is.”
