Mikel Arteta coy on Arsenal’s links to Mykola Matviyenko

Bournemouth vs Arsenal

Arsenal are set to take on Bournemouth in an FA Cup 4th round clash on Monday evening.

The Gunners currently boast the record for the most FA Cup trophies won, clinching 13 throughout their history.

And Mikel Arteta will no doubt be keen to use this competition to try to garner some silverware during his first season in the Arsenal dugout.

The north London outfit saw off Leeds United in the previous round, whilst Bournemouth put Luton to the sword.

Arteta asked about Matviyenko

Ahead of his side’s FA Cup clash with the Cherries, Mikel Arteta would hold his latest press conference on Friday.

A number of topics were discussed in the presser, one of which was Arsenal’s links to Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko.

Matviyenko’s agent recently claimed that he has been in contact with representatives of Arsenal.

And it was reported on Thursday that the Ukrainian outfit want £30m for the Arsenal target.

But when asked about his side’s links to Matviyenko on Friday, Arteta remained rather coy:

“I don’t know. I’m not going to be discussing any transfer links publicly. It’s something we’re trying to do internally. When we have news we will communicate with you guys.” As quoted by football.london.

The Spaniard was also asked if he is looking to bring in a defender, to which Arteta responded:

“We’ve been looking at different positions. Since I joined we lost Calum and we had other circumstances and injuries in those positions.

“At the back we’ve been short. Other positions as well, depending on what happens in the market, we might need to assess.” As quoted by football.london.
