Mikel Arteta adds two players to Arsenal’s first-team squad ahead of Norwich

Arsenal vs Norwich

To say that Arsenal’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign has gotten off to a nightmare start would be putting it lightly.

The Gunners, a League Cup win over a very weak West Brom aside, are yet to pick up a victory this term.

After a fairly active summer window, Arsenal’s fans were no doubt hopeful that Mikel Arteta could get the club’s league season off to a solid start, as they aim to improve on two successive 8th-place finishes.

However, so far, the Spaniard has done anything but. Arsenal would begin their campaign losing 2-0 to newly-promoted Brentford.

They were then completely dominated by both Chelsea and Manchester City, losing 2-0 and 5-0, leaving the capital giants dead bottom of the PL table heading into the international break.

After such a dismal start, it is imperative that Arsenal get something out of their upcoming clash this weekend.

The north Londoners will face off with Norwich City, one of only three teams yet to earn a point this term – Arsenal and Wolves of course being the other two.

The match takes place at 3pm UK time on Saturday, September 11th.

Arsenal add duo to training

Now, ahead of Saturday’s clash, Mikel Arteta has added two academy stars to his first-team squad.

As per the Mirror, the Spaniard has welcomed James Olayinka and Tim Akinola into the senior setup ahead of the Gunners’ must-win clash against Norwich.

Both players are 20 years of age, and have yet to make their senior Arsenal debut.

The pair are also both central midfielders, which may explain their respective inclusions.

Granit Xhaka will be out vs Norwich after being sent off vs Manchester City last time out, whilst Thomas Partey has only recently been spotted back in training after picking up an injury vs Chelsea in pre-season.

As such, if Partey is not fit enough for the Norwich game, this would leave just Mohamed Elneny and Albert Sambi Lokonga as natural central midfield options for Arteta, making the additions of Olayinka and Akinola altogether understandable.
