Middlesbrough complete the signing of West Ham striker

Middlesbrough have completed the signing of West Ham United striker Ashley Fletcher for a fee of £6.5m.

The 21 old-old becomes Middlesbrough’s sixth signing and their third striker recruited this summer, joining Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite on Teesside.

The BBC understand that the trio have cost the Championship club in the region of £30m, as they aim to bounce straight back to England’s top flight.

Fletcher’s has seemingly fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium, following the arrivals of Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen and Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City in a club-record deal.

West Ham departure

Ashley Fletcher only arrived at West Ham last summer after his contract at Manchester United expired.

The forwards was given persimmon to travel to Middlesbrough from West Ham’s training camp in Germany in order to finalise a transfer.

During his time with the Hammers Fletcher scored made a total of 20 appearances for the club’s first team.
