Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis unhappy with Friday night fixtures

Middlesbrough take on Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening. Ahead of the game, Boro boss Tony Pulis has been voicing his concern at Middlesbrough being forced to play on a Friday evening after having 10 players on international duty this week.

‘In the future, whether it’s Middlesbrough or other clubs, if they’re picking games on a Friday night we just think they should try to pick it more even’

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Pulis stated:

“Sheffield Wednesday have had one player away, we’ve had 10.

“This will be our first day back to do work. That’s disappointing, but we have to get on with it. The facts are the facts and we’ve put that forward to the bodies concerned.

“We don’t think it’s a fair outcome. In the future, whether it’s Middlesbrough or other clubs, if they’re picking games on a Friday night we just think they should try to pick it more even.

“Sheffield Wednesday have had two weeks where they’ve had players in every day, we’ve had players coming in yesterday which leaves us one full day.

“I’ve put a letter in and I think they understand where we’re coming from. We’ll see.

“It’s not just us, if you look at the Championship now a lot of players are playing international football. That’s fantastic for the league but if they’re going to continue to do that (Friday night games) then pick the teams on a level basis.

“It’s not as though they don’t have the resources to find out how many players are away. But it’s happened, I’d rather talk about the game.”

Middlesbrough vs Sheffield Wednesday

Middlesbrough head into Friday evening’s game 4th in the Championship and just three points off top spot.

However, Boro’s recent form has not been great.

The Teessider’s last game would see them lose their first home game of the season to Nottingham Forest.

Boro have also recently been held to draws with both Hull City and Swansea, two very winnable games.

Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, come into this game 6th in the league.

They are just three points behind Boro and a win tonight would be a huge statement for the Owls.
