Antonio angst

West Ham overcame Wolves last night 3-2 to very much keep their Champions League hopes alive, in a game where Jesse Lingard once again stared for the Irons.

The Hammers host Leicester City on Sunday lunchtime, in what can only be viewed as a vital fixture for both clubs in the race for the Champions League places. West Ham currently sit in 4th place, 4 points behind Leicester in 3rd, so the significance of the tie is clear.

The victory over Wolves provided a good end to a day in which the club had suffered the news that their captain Declan Rice is set to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a knee injury whilst away on international duty with England.

However, there was also a sting in the tail as Michail Antonio suffered a hamstring injury and was forced to leave the proceedings early, which has left the club sweating over his fitness.

Unfortunately, Antonio’s West Ham career has been plagued by hamstring problems. With Declan Rice also now out for the foreseeable future, losing their main striker as well will be a major blow to David Moyes.

Speaking on Antonio to Sky Sports post game Moyes said, “Michail Antonio played as well as he has for a long while for 30 minutes. We’re not sure on the injury. We will assess it tomorrow. It looks like he’s felt his hamstring

“He will be hoping that there is nothing untoward regarding the injury and that he will have Antonio fit for the weekend, or at least the majority of the run in.”
