Mexico coach believes Wolves’ Raul Jimenez could represent country at Olympics this summer

Jimenez links up with Mexico

Jimenez suffered a serious injury back in November vs Arsenal, which saw him stretchered off following a clash of heads with David Luiz.

It was subsequently revealed that Jimenez had suffered a fractured skull, and he has not featured for Wolves since.

Speaking in January, though, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo revealed his hope that the Mexican could feature again this season.

The striker has now recently joined up with Mexico during the ongoing international break:

Jimenez to feature at Olympics?

Despite linking up with his country, Jimenez is still not playing games and not taking part in contact training.

When speaking about Jimenez recently, Mexico manager Gerardo Martino had this to say:

“Raul is good. He’s training normally with us, apart from contact training. He’s not doing that,” Martino told reporters.

“When there are some physical contact training exercises, we get him training separately with another member of the coaching staff.

“In terms of how he’s progressing, we are adhering to the protocols the Wolves team have given us.

“He hasn’t yet started to engage in contact training at his club, and we are monitoring him medically and in training on the pitch. We are certainly responding to what his team wants in his training.”

Gerardo Martino then expressed his hope that Jimenez could still play for Mexico at the Olympics this summer:

“I think we need to see when his club will decide to play him, when he gets the green light from doctors definitively.

“If Raul doesn’t get back playing towards the end of the season, I think that means we have much less of a chance of having him available.

“If he does, there is a lot more time looking forward to the Gold Cup and the Olympic Games and him being available for those games.

“But it all depends on what happens at Wolves in the coming 50 days.”

Should Jimenez take part in the Olympics, though, he would miss a good chunk of Wolves’ pre-season, with the Olympics lasting from July 21st to August 7th.
