Mesut Ozil Arsenal

Mesut Ozil’s representatives expected to meet with DC United chiefs next week

As per a growing number of sources across the American media this evening, the agent of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil will meet with officials from MLS outfit DC United next week.

Arsenal’s summer business

On the back of an initially-encouraging, albeit ultimately-disappointing campaign last time out, during which Arsenal once again failed to secure a Champions League berth, the Gunners’ hierarchy have gone about reshaping the squad at the disposal of Unai Emery this summer.

To this point, all of Gabriel Martinelli, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe have made the move to the Emirates, while a deal to take William Saliba to the English capital next summer has also been struck.

Widespread reports, though, suggest that the Arsenal board are far from finished their work on the transfer front.

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney is known to be a long-term target, while another central defender is also on the agenda:

One of the more surprising names to be touted as a potential arrival in north London over the last week, though, has been Philippe Coutinho.

On the back of a lacklustre campaign with Barcelona in 2018/19, the Brazilian has been hotly-tipped for a return to the Premier League.

Links to Arsenal have, for obvious reasons, however, been shut down by most, amid questions over the Gunners’ need for a player of Coutinho’s ilk.

Rooney to Derby, Ozil to DC, Coutinho to Arsenal?

As per the aforementioned reports stemming from the United States this evening, though, Arsenal may yet have reason to be on the lookout for an attack-minded midfielder.

This comes amid claims that the representatives of Mesut Ozil are due to hold a meeting with MLS outfit DC United next week.

Ozil could be viewed as a potential replacement for Wayne Rooney, who’s January switch to Derby County was made official earlier today:

The reliable Steven Goff of the Washington Post and DC-based journalist Pablo Maurer, meanwhile, are those to have reported on apparent imminent negotiations between Ozil’s agents and DC United:
