Mesut Ozil’s disappearing act
Where was Mesut Ozil?
It’s been a few weeks since Arsenal fans saw Mesut Ozil start a match.
The German World Cup winner has been on the sidelines with a back injury. Although he made it off the bench for a few minutes during Monday’s 2-0 win over West Brom.
During his absence, some Arsenal fans have commented that the team have been playing better.
At the same time, rumours have popped up linking Ozil with a summer move to Man United.
However, Ozil was thought to be fit, so why was he missing for the Brighton game?
It’s worth remembering that Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season. At that point he can leave the Emirates Stadium for free.
UPDATE: It’s since been reported that Ozil is out with a thigh injury. Will that mean he misses the German get-together in the upcoming international break?
Ozil wasn’t the only big name absentee for Arsenal. Laurent Koscielny was also surprisingly out of the matchday squad for the Brighton match.
Koscielny is known to suffer from an ongoing Achilles problem, which is the likeliest reason why the French international was forced to sit the game out.
