Mesut Ozil’s agent rules out Arsenal exit for midfielder this summer

Mesut Ozil’s agent, Erkut Sogut, has recently been discussing his client’s future.

Ozil frozen out

Since being handed a huge contract in January of 2018, Mesut Ozil has been pretty average.

The German has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot for Arsenal, with the ability that he once showcased on a regular basis for the likes of Real Madrid and Germany a distant memory.

Instead, the 31-year-old has fallen out of favour under both Unai Emery and now Mikel Arteta.

Ozil was actually handed quite a bit of playing time by the latter when he first took the reins at the Emirates late last year.

But since the campaign restarted in June, Ozil has not managed a single appearance.

Even with the increased matchday squad size and five subs rule, meanwhile, the World Cup winner failed to secure a place on the bench in the Gunners’ last seven Premier League outings of the season.

Ozil staying put

Mikel Arteta himself has also been fairly blunt regarding the whole situation.

When asked about Ozil, which he has been on a persistent basis of late, the usually chatty manager shies away from the topic, with Arteta having even recently stated that he has ‘nothing to say’.

So, with Ozil seemingly not part of Arteta’s plans moving forward, and a hefty wage packet to his name, Arsenal are no doubt keen to move the midfielder on this summer.

However, as mentioned above, Ozil’s agent has recently been discussing his client’s future. And it doesn’t sound too positive from a Gunners perspective.

Erkut Sogut stated that he doesn’t believe ‘there will be a change’ for Ozil until the summer of 2021, when his current contract expires, instead insisting that his client will remain at Arsenal next season:

“I do not think there will be a change in the case of Mesut Ozil until the summer of 2021.

“He has a contract. There is no change. He will remain in Arsenal.”
