It had been thought Ozil would refuse a new deal with the Gunners, but Erkut Sogut seems to think there could be hope yet – though Ozil is happy with interest from other clubs.
Sogut told Fanatik: “Mesut is glad to hear of Besiktas being interested in him, however, no proposal has reached us.
“Even if that did happen, he wants to play in the Premier League for at least two to three more years.
“Our contact with Arsenal continues and we are moving in a positive direction.”
The other player Arsenal fans are unsure about is of course Alexis Sanchez, with the forward almost certain to leave the club at the end of his deal.
While Ozil is more likely to stay with the Gunners, Wenger wasn’t very positive last time he spoke about either of their futures, and seemed more bothered with the current state of the market and the inflation of players and the wage issue, something he has constantly spoken about and cautioned against.
Wenger has spoken about the pair and their contract extensions, and cast doubt on it: “There’s a big inflation that means most of the clubs have two situations with players who go to the end of the contract.
“There are players who do not want to renew and players who expect higher wages so don’t want to sign the contract because they expect huge wages due to the inflation.
“So that results in more and more players going to the end of their contracts.”
