Mesut Ozil, Man United star & more jump on Kalvin Phillips hype train following Euros opener

A host of high-profile individuals have taken to social media on Sunday, to lavish praise on England star Kalvin Phillips.

Sterling makes the difference

The Three Lions were of course back in action a short time ago, when they got their Euro 2020 campaign underway in a meeting with Croatia.

Gareth Southgate’s men entered the clash with revenge firmly on their minds, with memories of a 2018 World Cup semi-final exit at the hands of the Croats still fresh in the memory.

And, when all was said and done at Wembley, get their revenge is precisely what England went on to do.

Raheem Sterling proved match-winner on the day, netting the game’s only goal early in the 2nd-half.

After being slipped in by the aforementioned Phillips, Sterling just managed to get his right foot to the ball, slotting beyond Dominik Livaković to ensure that the Three Lions’ European Championship campaign got off to the best possible start.

‘What a player’

Whilst it was Sterling, in the end, who made the difference when it to came to the final scoreline at Wembley this afternoon, however, it was another of England’s stars who went on to grab the headlines.

The player in question? Kalvin Phillips.

Leeds United’s Phillips was trusted from the off by Gareth Southgate versus Croatia, and went on to fully repay the faith of his manager courtesy of a wonderful all-action performance in the middle of the park.

The midfielder was widely labelled as Man of the Match, with fans, pundits and the media alike having since sent deserved praise his way.

As outlined above, though, the Phillips love-in did not end there, with players past and present having also taken to social media in numbers, to reveal their admiration for the 25-year-old:
