Mesut Ozil bids Arsenal teammates farewell as German confirms ‘I am coming to Istanbul tonight’

Arsenal exit

The major talking point at the Emirates over the last week has of course surrounded the future of out of favour midfielder Ozil.

The German has remarkably not featured for the Gunners since March of last year, having been deemed surplus to requirements by Mikel Arteta.

In turn, having evidently seen the writing on the wall when it comes to his time in north London, and with his contract due to expire in the summer, Ozil has been widely tipped for a January exit.

Fenerbahce and DC United had long been labelled the frontrunners in the race to secure the 32-year-old’s signature, with the former, on Saturday, having dropped a major hint that they were on the verge of closing a deal:

The Turkish giants’ social media post came just hours after word was forthcoming that an agreement had been reached between Arsenal and Ozil over the termination of his contract, with the latter having quickly followed up with a Fener hint of his own:

‘Wear the shirt with pride’

And, as outlined above, this afternoon, the one-time Real Madrid star’s imminent Emirates exit has moved even closer to coming to fruition.

As confirmed by a host of reliable sources online, Ozil has bid farewell to his long-time Arsenal teammates.

This comes with the German having been granted permission to travel to Turkey, ahead of undergoing a medical with his new club:

Speaking in an interview with the Turkish media a short time ago, meanwhile, Ozil confirmed that he is due to arrive in Istanbul later tonight, ‘thanking God’ for the opportunity to represent Fenerbahce:
