Memphis confirms France switch
Memphis Depay is a Lyon player. The Dutch winger confirmed it himself on social media on Friday. He’s leaving Manchester United after a disappointing season and a half with the Red Devils. He showed much promise early on in his stint at Old Trafford before fading badly. By the time Jose Mourinho took over, Memphis was well and truly out of the first team picture. But even though United are selling the player, they obviously still believe in his potential.
That’s why they included a buy-back option in the deal with the Ligue 1 side.
The attacker took to Twitter to post a picture of the massive tattoo on his back, one that will resonate with the fans of his new club: A lion. The caption reads: WE ARE OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS. It’s complete with lion emojis too.
Details of the deal
As we already mentioned, United agreed a buy-back option on Depay. They also secured a sell-on clause with Lyon.
It’s unclear how much United would need to pay to bring the Dutchman back to Old Trafford, nor do have any details on the percentage Man United would get if Lyon sell Memphis on. As for the United-Lyon deal itself, the Telegraph say Lyon will pay around £16m, which could rise to £21.7m with add-ons. Read the full story here.
