World Cup qualifiers on the horizon
The 2017-18 European season is already preparing to come to a halt.
As happens every year, the start of September will see leagues take a break for international football.
2018 World Cup qualifiers are coming up, and over in South America there’s already quite a buzz about Argentina’s brand new XI for the match against Uruguay.
Argentina still have work to do
La Albiceleste are still in danger of missing out on Russia 2018.
Argentina are fifth in the South American qualifiers, just two points ahead of Ecuador.
It’s been a difficult campaign for the South American giants, who at one point had Leo Messi suspended for four matches.
Uruguay meanwhile, are third in the table, two points above Argentina.
Argentina brand new XI
This weekend, Argentine paper Ole had looked into how Jorge Sampaoli will line up the national team in Montevideo.
Two line-ups are presented, but the big news is that Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi starts in both XIs.
While Icardi leads the line instead of Gonzalo Higuain, Leo Messi and Paulo Dybala offer support from deeper positions.
Looking closer at the two options for Sampaoli, his decision breaks down to playing three at the back or four.
The two possible Argentina XIs v Uruguay are below.
