Maurizio Sarri gives David Luiz contract update after Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Chelsea

Chelsea travelled to Germany on Thursday to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the first-leg of their Europa League semi-final.

The Blues starting line-up was somewhat of a surprise as it showed Eden Hazard on the bench from the get-go.

Given the magnitude of the game, resting one of your top stars like Hazard seemed a bit odd.

Chelsea would then go 1-0 down in the 23rd minute via in-form striker, Luka Jovic.

Maurizio Sarri’s side would improve as the game went on, though, with Pedro grabbing Chelsea an away goal in the 45th minute.

Luiz contract update

After the game, Maurizio Sarri was asked a number of questions, one of which was about David Luiz’s contract situation.

The Brazilian’s current deal runs out in July and he has yet to agree to a new one.

Luiz has been a pivotal member of Sarri’s setup this season, featuring 46 times across all competitions.

When asked about any potential deal, Sarri stated:

“I know that he had a meeting four or five days ago, but then my mind was on this match.”
