Maurizio Sarri gives Chelsea injury update before Newcastle

Chelsea vs Newcastle

Chelsea host Newcastle on Saturday as they look to maintain 4th place.

The Blues have had a solid first half of the season under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

They have lost just one of their last five league games although Chelsea are all but out of the title race.

As a result, Sarri’s main focus will be ensuring Chelsea qualify for the Champions League next season.

As mentioned above, the Blues are 4th in the league but 5th place Arsenal are just three points behind them.

Newcastle, on the other hand, head into the weekend’s games 15th in the league.

They have also failed to win any of their last four Premier League matches.

Yet, as Sarri has alluded to, Newcastle are a much better side away from home:

“This match is very difficult because they are doing better away. They lost 8/11 at home but only 3/10 away. It is a difficult opponent away.”

Chelsea injury update

Ahead of the Newcastle clash, Sarri has given an injury update on Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Alvaro Morata.

Loftus-Cheek was subbed off in the first half of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash last weekend and is expected to be out for the rest of the month.

As for Morata, he did not feature earlier this week in the League Cup for Chelsea but Sarri is hopeful the Spaniard will be ok to face Newcastle.

“Of course, Loftus-Cheek is out at the moment. Yesterday Alvaro had training with his team-mates. I hope that he will be able to play”

Morata is, of course, being linked with a move away from Chelsea though Sarri expects Morata to remain focused on Chelsea, for now.
