Maurizio Sarri drops hint over Chelsea’s January transfer plans

Maurizio Sarri has suggested that Chelsea will not look to sign new players in January.

The Italian coach says he hopes to improve his team by coaching rather than spending money on areas of weakness.

Sarri also admitted that the West London club’s current group of players must improve to be able to compete at the top.

Sarri: “We need to improve with these players”

The former SSC Napoli manager insists he won’t be looking to add to his squad during the winter window.

Sarri instead hopes to improve his current crop of players.

Although the 59-year-old admitted Chelsea are not yet strong enough to compete at the very top, he believes his players have the capacity to do so if he can mould them into better players.

Sarri said:

“I didn’t ask anything about it to my club at the moment.

“At the moment I think we can stay with these players and be competitive.

“Maybe not for the top but we have to try to arrive close to the top.

“I have to think I only have to help these players to improve.

“It is too easy to go into the market for every problem.

“I think we need to improve and we need to improve with these players because they can improve.

“I have to think to improve my players. It is my work, I think. The market, there is the club.

“I can say to the club my opinion about what I think I need but my job is to try to improve my players.”
