Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has this afternoon dropped the clearest hint yet that Eden Hazard is set to depart the club this summer.
Leicester 0-0 Chelsea
The Blues travelled to the King Power Stadium a short time ago, for a meeting with Leicester City.
Chelsea headed into proceedings having followed a crucial 3-0 win over Watford last weekend, a result which ensured their place in next season’s Champions League, by booking their spot in the Europa League final during the week.
As such, ahead of kick-off this evening, the capital giants were aware that all that was left to play for was solidifying 3rd place in the Premier League table.
And, when the 90 minutes were said and done at the King Power, this was precisely what Chelsea managed.
A drab matchup eventually resulted in a 0-0 draw between the sides, but, when coupled with the fact that Tottenham were unable to put Everton to the sword, there was no change in the Premier League’s top-4 standings.
‘Time to respect his decision’
As such, with little to discuss regarding his side’s performance this afternoon, the focus of Maurizio Sarri’s post-game press conference inevitably quickly switched to the future of Eden Hazard.
And, after explaining why he decided to leave his side’s talisman out from the start at Leicester, the Chelsea boss went on to drop his clearest hint yet that Hazard looks set to depart Stamford Bridge this summer:
‘Eden was tired today so he was on the bench. We tried to win with him later on – last 25 mins. Eden has played here for 7 seasons, trying in every match to do his best. And now it’s time to respect his decision. But I hope he will remain with us.’
Sarri says Eden Hazard tried to do his best for seven seasons at Chelsea and did very well. He says we must respect him and his decision although he hopes of course that the player will remain here, but at the moment he does not know if he will. #LEICHE
