Maurizio Sarri drops big hint over Chelsea’s January transfer activity

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has hinted at the possibility of making one signing during the January transfer window.

However, the Italian coach warned the club over the dangers of signing a whole host of new players.

He also admitted that he is keen to arrive close to the club’s maximum potential before adding a new player.

Sarri: “We can get the last five per cent with a new player”

Despite making a strong start to life as manager at Stamford Bridge, Sarri has admitted the club are far from reaching their potential.

Whilst his players are continuing to adjust to the new style of play, he is also in the process of changing the club’s mentality in order to improve.

The Blues will be ready to add to their squad when Sarri feels the team are close to reaching their maximum potential.

Sarri said:

“Not always. We need to work and improve. We need to understand the style of playing.

“We need to change mentality – not because the old mentality was bad but it is not suitable with the new way of playing.

“Then after all this, maybe you need one player.

“But you cannot think you can buy 11 new players without problems.

“Then the problems will be the same. You have to create a new mentality and style of playing.

“We need to arrive at 95 per cent of our potential, then we can get the last five per cent with a new player.”
