Mauricio Pochettino reportedly in talks over Zenit St. Petersburg post

Speculation stemming from the European media over the last 24 hours has hinted at a potential future in Russia for Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham stint

Argentine tactician Pochettino is of course best remembered for his time spent in the Premier League.

Following a 3-year stint in charge of Espanyol, the 48-year-old opted to make the move to Southampton in 2013, before linking up with Tottenham a year later.

And it was his spell in north London which saw Pochettino go on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded managers in not only England, but all of Europe.

The former Argentinian international guided Spurs to top-4 finishes in four of his five seasons with the club, including a runners-up berth in 2016-17.

Poch’s crowning achievement, though, came two seasons ago, when, miraculously, he oversaw the Lilywhites’ run all the way to the final of the Champions League.

Zenit bound?

A dismal opening to the campaign last time out, however, saw loyalties cast aside by Tottenham, and Pochettino dismissed in November of 2019.

And, somewhat surprisingly, the South American has since remained out of work.

Pochettino has been linked with a whole host of top clubs, including the likes of Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

As outlined above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds in the European media is to be believed, then the ex-Spurs boss could soon be back on the bench, and in an altogether surprise location.

As per a report from Russian outlet Championat, Zenit St. Petersburg are eyeing Pochettino as the club’s next boss.

In fact, it is even suggested that negotiations between the parties are already underway.

Poch is said to be ready for a return to management, with a number of heavyweights keeping an eye on his situation.

However, the failure of any such club to step forward with a genuine proposal has seemingly opened the door for Zenit, who are labelled as having a ‘real chance’ at landing the Argentine.
