Matt Targett sells himself and Jack Grealish from his Fantasy football side… does he know something we don’t?

Fantasy injury tips

With everyone keen to get the inside scoop regarding injuries for their Fantasy Football teams, interesting avenues by which players can find out ahead of time are constantly surfacing.

The most common way is to listen to press conference updates and follow specific Twitter accounts, providing inside knowledge as to what is going on behind the scenes. However, a new trend is also growing, in the form of looking at the fantasy teams of professional footballers themselves, and the transfers that they make.

A good example came this week when Patrick Bamford, the Leeds striker, and his team faced off against Brighton on Saturday. A 1-0 defeat was forthcoming after Kiko Casilla replaced Ilian Meslier between the sticks for the visit of the Seagulls. Meslier is said to be ill, as confirmed by Marcelo Bielsa in his post-match press conference.

Bamford substituted Meslier out of his Fantasy side for Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel. Interesting that he chose not to show faith in his side’s backup option… It is likely that Bamford knew that Meslier would not be fit for the match, and used this to his advantage.

Therefore, players may now be well served in scrolling through the FPL teams of Premier League players, in order to get the latest scoop on who could be in and out of their side’s line-up.

Aston Villa are involved in two matches this Gameweek, providing the opportunity for players to double the amount of points earned from utilising their Villa assets. Matches against Manchester City and Newcastle await, with the latter the most likely opportunity for points to be scored by those in claret and blue.

However, there is always a chance that Dean Smith and his side could spring a surprise versus City, with the Villans having of course proved their ability to do so in a 7-2 victory over champions Liverpool earlier this season.

Team selection is difficult to predict with so few matches having been played by Aston Villa of late amid the Covid-19 outbreak at the club. As such, looking at the Fantasy team of one of their stars could give some insight into those who are not going to be involved.

Defender Matt Targett has made some interesting choices this week, including removing himself and talismanic figure Jack Grealish from his team. Could this be a sign that neither player will be available for one or both of Villa’s upcoming fixtures?

We will have to wait to discover the legitimacy of the source…
