Matt Doherty filmed deleting old pro-Arsenal Tweets following Spurs move

Tottenham have this evening taken to social media to post an amusing Tweet, simultaneously poking fun at themselves and arch rivals Arsenal.

Lilywhites switch

The big story on the white half of north London today of course surrounded the arrival of Matt Doherty.

28-year-old Irish international Doherty had developed into one of the Premier League’s finest wing-backs over the last couple of seasons, with the interest of Jose Mourinho and Spurs, in desperate need of reinforcements at right-back, having therefore made sense.

Speculation, meanwhile, had begun to mount this week that the capital giants were closing on a move for the former Bohemians man.

As such, it came as little surprise when, in a post across the club’s social media platforms this morning, Spurs announced Doherty’s signing.

The versatile stopper has put pen-to-paper on a 4-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in a deal worth a reported £15 million:

As outlined above, meanwhile, Tottenham, on the back of their latest addition being confirmed, made use of the opportunity to have some lighthearted fun at Doherty’s expense.

In a follow-up video which has since gone viral, the Lilywhites showcased the 28-year-old scrolling through old posts from his personal Twitter account.

The Tweets in question, which dated back to 2012, centered around Doherty’s affection for Arsenal, with the first having read:

‘I love Arsenal forever and ever and ever’

Another, seemingly in response to a fan, assured:

‘Yes I’m a HUGE Arsenal fan!’

Rather than make Doherty’s allegiance to their city rivals a bigger deal than it needed to be, though, Spurs instead simply filmed as the Irishman deleted the Tweets, all with a rather sheepish look spread across his face.
